Small Presentation on Primeval Representation

Representation refers to the construction in any medium of aspects of 'reality' such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other concepts. When representing a person media texts often focus on their; age, gender, race, job, culture, social standing, appearance and financial status. Signs and symbols are used as a kind of visual shorthand to represent these attribute. We decode these signs to make assumptions on who the character is.

Issues of representation of gender stereotypes are;
- Masculinity/Femininity
- Gender Roles
- Equality
- Characteristics
- Apperance
- Attitudes

Example from primeval;
Abby; Appears to be a tom boy character, we can see this by the clothing she is wearing, and she also has very short hair, in addition to this she is the one who fights off and shoots the saber tooth tiger. When stereo typically women would be seen as the 'damsel in distress' and would need to be 'saved'. So this is going against usual representation of women.

Digital Technology Short Presentation

The history of film began in the 1890's when the first motion picture camera was developed. Technology has brought many changes to visual aspects and form of film entertainment, for example CGI has improved how we see special effects. Technology has affected the way that films are also watched. Producers now have to think if the film should be marketed a DVD, cinema film or as a downloadable film. 3D and digital cinema screens have also made marketing film easier, as it is something new for the audiences to watch and it keeps them interested, and the industry desperately need that as in the 1950's the first TV was created. This lead to many different ways of people watching film, they were also much cheaper ways, so people wouldn't go to the cinemas as much and just stay at home and watch a film instead..

 Digital technology has decreased many costs for production as they can film with a higher quality picture and a lower budget, as well as saving much more time. This is because you can watch what you just filmed right there and then, you also save time not changing magazines every 10 minutes, and in addition to this you can actually see what you are filming, instead of just guessing what it is going to look like. Although it is debated whether the picture is actually any clearer than film, although it is defiantly not debatable how time effective the digital cameras are, as they are so light and easy to maneuver. 

Hollywood was also once famous for building huge studio sets for their blockbuster films, as well as using big heavy machinery and spending crazy amounts on a film. However now that these lightweight cameras and smaller sound recording devices have been made, there is a huge shift in the style and themes explored in film, as it makes things that you couldn't do before doable.
